Seeking salvation

The Mel Gibson film "The Passion of The Christ", portrayed the violent death and resurrection of Jesus. If anything, it reminded us of the pain that Christ went through to die for our sins. If human beings didn't choose to rebel against God, do our own thing and ignore Him, then Jesus would not have needed to come and die for us. We may not actually have physically been there and hammered the nails into His hands and feet, but our choices and sin caused it to have to happen.

If you want to get that fresh start and follow Jesus, there are some steps that you have to take. Firstly, you have to recognise that you are guilty of sin. You have done things that have hurt God and you have to recognize that, and choose to live another way. You need to turn around from living that way and choose to live God's way. The bible calls that repentance. Then you have to believe that Jesus, God's Son, died on the Cross in your place. He took the rap for all the bad things you have done. Ask Jesus to forgive you for every single bad thing you've done, say you are sorry and decide to follow Him. You need to decide that you will do everything He wants you to do for the rest of your life. If you ask Jesus to forgive you, He will!

This is a serious decision and no one else can make it for you. Maybe you've never prayed before and talking to God is a little awkward. To help you, I have written a prayer that you say. Read it out loud and say it from your heart - Jesus is listening!

Father God,

I am coming to you because I know that my choices and my sin have hurt others and damaged myself. I know I have hurt You as well. I am sorry God.

I would like to start again. I am choosing to turn away from everything that I now know to be wrong and I am choosing to follow You.

Thank you that you sent Jesus to die on the Cross for me and to take the rap for all of my sins. Please forgive me.

I have received the forgiveness that Jesus dying on the Cross has made possible for me.

From this point on, I will follow You. I am saying 'yes' to You Jesus and inviting You fully into my life. I choose to make You the Boss of my life, please take hold of it and for the rest of my days, live inside me.

Thank You for forgiving me. Thank You for giving me a fresh start and giving me life in all its fullness.

If you sincerely prayed that prayer, then you have now become a Christian and God has fully accepted you just as you are right now. You can walk with Him, talk to Him and enjoy your fresh start. But this is only the beginning!
